Q: How is “I Will Not Lose” different from Jay-Z’s memoir, “Decoded”?
A: I read Decoded and thoroughly enjoyed it. In his book, Jay shares some experiences from his life and reveals literal interpretations of 36 of his songs. “I Will Not Lose!” is a self-help book that shares “street smart” personal development advice inspired from over 90 songs in Jay-Z's catalog. “Decoded” is a revealing memoir about Jay-Z while “I Will Not Lose! is about YOU. The book shares how Jay’s lyrics about his hustle can inspire you to step up the game in YOUR hustle.
Q: Who are you?
A: Duane Lawton; a writer and self-proclaimed ‘digital hustler’. I’m a V-A (Virginia) kid, born in the Hampton Roads area and raised in the ‘DMV’ (DC, Maryland and Virginia). I’ve had ‘dead-end’ jobs that paid low hourly wages for years and I’ve made thousands of dollars on the Internet in days! That’s been my life, full of ups-and-downs.
I’ve been a fan of Jay-Z going back to ’96 when his debut album, Reasonable Doubt was released when I was just 19 years old. I was “a dreamer and a schemer” back then and that album spoke to my undeterred ambition. Jay-Z’s music has been in heavy rotation in the soundtrack of my life ever since.
Q: What’s the story behind “I Will Not Lose!”
A: I wrote the original manuscript back in 2007 where it basically sat on my hard drive. In the summer of 2010, I started publishing a blog called ‘The Book of Hov” which is based on the original manuscript. Encouraged from the feedback I received on the blog, I decided to rewrite the manuscript and make it much, much better.
My book, “I Will Not Lose!” contains updated writings from the original manuscript, revised versions of some of the posts on my blog and many never-read-before writings that I’ve been working on for the past 6 months. The book is the most in-depth work ever published about the song lyrics of one emcee.
Q: Is “I Will Not Lose!” in print?
A: No. The book is an ebook in PDF format. After you make a secure purchase (through Paypal) you will gain instant access to the book. You can download the book and save it to your computer to view it at anytime. Look out for the book in print soon.
